By contrast, the Danish political drama Borgen, which returns to British television for its third series next month, has at its heart Prime Minister Birgitte Nyborg, a woman who exudes such a heady allure – without revealing so much as a hint of décolletage – that it’s a wonder her male adversaries can keep their minds on conspiracy.
But somehow they do (the main drawback of social democracy appears to be its dreary effect on the libido) and Nyborg’s complex, winning character is a compelling study in power politics experienced from a female perspective.
